Abstract
Bengkayang is one of the districts in Kalimantan Province. This regency is very special because it is located right on the border between Indonesia and Serikin Sarawak, Malaysia. The condition of the border area certainly leaves various challenges due to the area's location quite far from the city center and a fairly large area. This situation presents a very significant challenge in efforts to improve the quality of education and human resources of the community in the Bengkayang region. Based on the actual conditions in the field, various limitations were found, ranging from the lack of availability of educational facilities and infrastructure, difficult to access learning resources, inadequate school facilities and various other educational support facilities that do not meet appropriate educational standards. This challenge is very real experienced by teachers who serve in the border region. Amid this situation, teachers are required to be more creative by improving their role professionally. The demand for the importance of this increased role of teachers becomes stronger when the deep learning approach is started to be promoted by the central government and implemented in the educational process in the border region. Given this situation, this research becomes very urgent to be conducted with the aim of analyzing the dynamics of the role of teachers who serve in the border region of Indonesia and Malaysia in the learning process in the classroom, especially in implementing the deep learning approach. The research was conducted using a qualitative method with a System Dynamics approach based on the Causal Loop Diagram (CLD). Meanwhile, in the process of collecting field data, this research used a technical triangulation process that included several research instruments at once, including questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The results of this study indicate that teachers in Bengkayang, the border area of Indonesia and Malaysia, have carried out their roles as professional teachers, emphasizing their roles on 3 main aspects, namely as guides, facilitators, and motivators. Meanwhile, the results of the Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) mapping by referring to the results of the instruments on the 3 existing research instruments indicate a strong causal relationship between the role of teachers, challenges in border regions, and the deep learning approach, which then makes teachers more creative in carrying out their roles professionally. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that teachers who serve in Bengkayang Regency, the border area of Indonesia and Malaysia, are professionally reviewed from the consistency in carrying out their roles and are ready to implement the deep learning approach in the classroom, however, this readiness is not supported by other educational supporting factors in the form of school facilities, learning resources, and inadequate access to technology.
