Aims

Jurnal Pendidikan Geografi: Kajian, Teori, dan Praktik dalam Bidang Pendidikan dan Ilmu Geografi (JPG) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published biannually by Universitas Negeri Malang. The journal provides an international scholarly forum for advancing theory, research, and practice in geography education and the geographical sciences.

JPG aims to bridge geographic knowledge with teaching and learning, spatial reasoning, geospatial technologies, and evidence-based approaches to addressing real-world spatial, environmental, and sustainability challenges. The journal welcomes original and high-quality contributions from authors worldwide and prioritizes studies that demonstrate methodological rigor, theoretical relevance, and contributions that extend beyond a single local or national context.

The journal promotes interdisciplinary perspectives that strengthen understanding of interactions between human and environmental systems, while also advancing innovative approaches to geography education, geographic literacy, spatial thinking, and the application of geographical knowledge in educational and societal contexts.

Scope

JPG publishes original research articles, systematic reviews, and empirically grounded case studies in the following areas:

  1. Geography Education and Pedagogy
    Curriculum development, teaching and learning models, project-based learning, flipped learning, STEM-oriented geography education, instructional media, MOOCs, assessment, teacher competencies, geographic literacy, spatial thinking, and geo-capabilities.

  2. Geospatial Technology for Learning and Research
    Applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, WebGIS, story maps, spatial data visualization, and immersive or virtual-reality technologies for geography learning and geographical research.

  3. Physical Geography and Earth Systems
    Research on geomorphology, hydrology, hydrogeology, climatology, water resources, soils, erosion, and related earth-system processes with relevance to geographical understanding and education.

  4. Geohazards and Disaster Risk Reduction
    Hazard assessment, disaster mitigation, preparedness, disaster education, risk communication, vulnerability analysis, and community resilience.

  5. Human, Economic, and Regional Geography
    Population and migration, rural–urban interactions, economic geography, tourism geography, land-use dynamics, regional development, and spatial planning.

  6. Environmental Geography and Sustainability
    Environmental management, natural-resource conservation, coastal and marine systems, urban green spaces, environmental education, sustainability education, and local knowledge or ethnogeography.

  7. Applied Geoscience and Environmental Assessment
    Applied geographical and geoscientific research, including geology, geothermal studies, environmental quality assessment, and other spatially oriented investigations relevant to environmental and regional issues.

Through this scope, JPG encourages meaningful interaction among geography education, geographical sciences, geospatial technologies, and related interdisciplinary fields to strengthen both scientific understanding and educational practice.
