Abstract
IAIN Lhokseumawe is one of the Islamic universities in Aceh that is situated in a location conducive to attracting more students. Nevertheless, this has kept the number of students enrolling at IAIN Lhokseumawe. Over the past five years, the number of students at IAIN Lhokseumawe has fluctuated. The data indicate a need for more linearity in the fan and subscriber trends. Following the implementation of the promotional strategy, the outcome remained unchanged. Consequently, IAIN Lhokseumawe must re-examine the rationale behind student decision-making processes when selecting educational institutions. This approach will allow IAIN Lhokseumawe to develop innovative strategies to increase student enrollment. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach utilizing the Geographic Information System (GIS) to analyze student geographical data from 2021 to 2023. The students' geographical data was processed using the ArcGIS application. The study's findings indicate that the map's highest level of spatial penetration is observed in the areas surrounding the cities of Lhokseumawe and North Aceh, Bireun, and Central Aceh. The mapping results reveal two distinct behaviour patterns among students enrolled at IAIN Lhokseumawe. A reliance on distance characterizes the first pattern as a primary factor in college selection. Considerations of affordability drive the second pattern. By understanding these behavioural patterns, Islamic universities can gain insights into the geographical distribution of their student population, which can inform the development of more effective and efficient recruitment strategies.
