Abstract

Background: Existing elementary mathematics teaching materials may provide limited opportunities to connect plane geometry concepts with local cultural contexts and collaborative inquiry activities.

Objectives: This study aimed to develop an Ethno–Collaborative Inquiry E-Module and evaluate its feasibility, practicality, and preliminary effectiveness in supporting fifth-grade elementary school students’ numeracy skills in plane geometry, particularly in solving problems involving perimeter and area.

Methods: The study employed a research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, comprising the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research involved 32 fifth-grade students at SDN Dapur Desa Aik Bukak, North Batukliang District, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The preliminary effectiveness of the e-module was evaluated using a one-group pretest–posttest design without a control group.

Results: The e-module received an expert validation score of 3.55, categorized as highly suitable. Instructional implementation reached 90.25%, while student and teacher response scores were 86.50% and 88.00%, respectively. Students’ mean scores increased from 55.59 on the pretest to 81.34 on the posttest, with an N-Gain of 0.59, indicating moderate improvement.

Conclusions: These findings suggest that the e-module is feasible and practical and shows preliminary potential for supporting elementary students’ numeracy skills in plane geometry. The integration of Sasak ethnomathematics and collaborative inquiry provides a culturally contextualized alternative for elementary mathematics instruction.
