Abstract

The advancement of technology has significantly shaped generational differences, particularly in how each generation adapts to learning. Educational contexts continue to evolve in response to these generational shifts. This study aims to examine learner characteristics based on generational differences through a traditional literature review. The selected literature focuses on various generational cohorts and their distinct approaches to learning. The findings reveal that each generation exhibits unique learner characteristics influenced by their historical and technological context. The Greatest Generation emphasizes initiative in learning; the Silent Generation prioritizes standardized learning; Baby Boomers value learning independence; Generation X seeks balance in learning; Millennials (Generation Y) emphasize self-directed learning control; Generation Z prefers abstract learning constructions; Generation Alpha highlights creativity; and the emerging Beta Generation is projected to engage in complex learning processes aided by artificial intelligence. This review offers insights that can serve as an alternative reference for educators and stakeholders in understanding and addressing generational learning needs.
