Abstract
Empathy is a crucial aspect in social professions such as counseling and psychotherapy, acting as a bridge in building an effective therapeutic relationship between counselors and clients. This study aims to test the effectiveness of classical guidance services in developing empathy in students of the Guidance and Counseling study program, Ma'soem University, class of 2023. The study used a quantitative method with a one-group pre-test post-test pre-experimental design, involving 42 students with a saturated sample technique. The instrument used was the Empathy Scale for Prospective Counselor (ESPC) based on Segal's theory (2018). The results of the analysis showed a significance value of 0.875 and a Tcount value of -.158, which indicated no significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. Thus, classical guidance services are not effective in increasing student empathy, so H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected.
