Abstract

Indonesian language learning has increasingly emphasized methods to strengthen students’ communication skills. However, systematic mapping of research developments in this area remains scarce. This study employed bibliometric analysis using metadata retrieved from Google Scholar (2019–2024) through the Publish or Perish application. Data were analyzed based on quantitative, qualitative, and structural indicators with VOSviewer to identify publication trends and thematic clusters. Eight main research characteristics were identified: (1) development of Indonesian-based learning models such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL), (2) teacher–student interaction, (3) the teacher’s role in applying methods and influencing outcomes, (4) student performance and media use, (5) comprehension analysis, (6) teachers’ language use in classroom interactions, (7) Indonesian learning in elementary schools, and (8) curriculum aspects. Publication trends show a decline in 2019–2020, growth in 2020–2022, and a decrease in 2023–2024. Density mapping highlights four clusters: language skills, learning strategies and approaches, innovative models, and communication in education. The findings reveal dynamic shifts in research emphasis, with growing interest in innovative learning models and communicative approaches. This study contributes by providing a structured overview of research patterns and thematic directions, serving as a reference for future investigations in Indonesian language education.
