Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the effect of cooperative learning of CIRC type with character values on short story seventh graders’ writing achievement at junior high school. In addition to that, a quantitative method with a quasi experimental design (pretest-posttest control group design) was conducted. It turned out that there was a significant effect of using cooperative learning of CIRC type with character values on short story seventh graders’ writing achievement at State Senior High School 5 Muara Bungo in (1) developing theme (3,383 e” 2,0086), (2) using the language (2,533 e” 2,0086), (3) developing the background (2,469 e” 2,0086), (4) developing characters (2,319 e” 2,0086), (5) developing the plot (2,087 e” 2,0086), and (6) implementing character values in cooperative learning of CIRC type in writing short story ran well. The finding was corroborated by the mean of students’ character values (3,16) and was categorized as good.
