Abstract
Background: Educational placement does not necessarily secure psychological well-being, reciprocal relationships, participation, or responsive support for students with special educational needs.
Objectives: This abstract-based narrative synthesis examined review materials describing a curated Scopus corpus of 110 records published between 2023 and 2026.
Methods: Forty records were presented in four thematic evidence matrices, while 70 supplied contextual material. Extraction was restricted to metadata, abstracts, and the available summary matrices; primary-study full texts were not systematically assessed, and no formal risk-of-bias assessment was performed. Evidence was organized around psychological resources, relational inclusion, educational supports, and institutional responsiveness.
Results: Reported associations connected self-efficacy, coping, self-determination, and psychological capital with adjustment and well-being. Relational studies emphasized peer acceptance, communication access, teacher relationships, family partnership, and institutional belonging. Intervention reports and existing reviews described potential benefits of mentoring, tutoring, cooperative learning, counseling, mindfulness, and assistive technology, alongside variation in outcomes and implementation.
Conclusions: These findings informed a provisional ecological-psychological model linking individual agency, relational safety, accessible provision, and institutional accountability. The model is an interpretive synthesis rather than a validated causal explanation. Corpus selection, mixed evidence types, possible overlap between reviews and primary studies, and abstract-level reporting constrain conclusions about effectiveness and generalizability.
