Abstract

The fact in mathematics learning activities in schools is less facilitating students to develop their mathematical communication skills. The results of preliminary observations indicate that students' mathematical communication skills are still low. This research is a classroom action research aimed at implementing jigsaw cooperative learning with a think-talk-write method to improve the mathematical communication skills of students of class XI Language in SMA 1 Kepanjen on Probability material. The subjects in this study were 20 students of class XI Language 2014/2015 academic year. Data is collected from the results of the final test of action, observation of the actions of teachers and students. The results of the first cycle of data analysis indicate that the implementation of learning is in very good criteria, 85% of students have minimal mathematical communication skills in good criteria and the average score of students' mathematical communication skills increases. Nevertheless, student activities are still insufficient criteria. Therefore, a second cycle is needed. The results of the second cycle of data analysis indicate that the implementation of learning is in very good criteria, student activities in good criteria, 90% of students have minimal mathematical communication skills in good criteria and the average score of students' mathematical communication skills increases. Based on the results of the analysis, it was concluded that the type of jigsaw cooperative learning with think-talk-write can improve the mathematical communication skills of students of class XI Language in SMA 1 Kepanjen on Probability material.
