Abstract

The objective of this study is to describe the thinking process of junior high school students with field dependence cognitive style in solving problems rectangles and triangles based on the theory of information processing. This study used a qualitative approach. This research was conducted in one of SMP city of Malang. Subjects of this study consisted of two students with field dependence cognitive style. To achieve the purpose of the study, researcher gave tests of mathematics and conducted interviews to the subjects of the research. The result of the study showed that field dependence students have not a good memory about the concept which is needed. In other words, not all mathematical concepts are stored in long term memory field dependence students.
