Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ creativity through waste recycling activities into art crafts in Grade V at SD Inpres Boyantongo. This research employs a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of 18 students, including 11 boys and 7 girls in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, focusing on the four aspects of creativity proposed by Munandar: innovation, imagination, originality, and elaboration. The results show that students’ creativity is categorized as good, although not yet fully optimal. In terms of innovation, students tended to use easily obtained materials and common techniques, although some had begun to try new patterns and forms. In the aspect of imagination, students were able to modify waste materials into new functional products; however, most creations were made spontaneously without specific themes or meaning, with only one group adding a cheerful theme through playful color combinations. In the originality aspect, students still showed a tendency to imitate others’ works with only slight personal modifications. Meanwhile, in the elaboration aspect, students were able to explain their crafting process in a structured and detailed manner and made adjustments during the work process, although the decorative details still need improvement to make the crafts more appealing. The questionnaire data support the findings from observations and interviews, showing that the majority of students (66.7%) generated ideas by modifying existing reference works, and none produced completely original ideas without any reference. Additionally, 66.7% of students selected materials that were easy to find, while 33.3% tried slightly more challenging materials, yet none used truly unique or uncommon materials. Overall, students’ creativity in transforming waste into art crafts demonstrates good potential, but still requires encouragement, guidance, and broader opportunities for exploration from teachers in order to develop more optimally
