Abstract
This research aims to analyse and describe the work values of Serat Wedhatama. It used qualitative approach by hermeneutic design. The prime sourch of this study was Serat Wedhatama. The serat was interpreted and validated by interviewing cultural expert from Keraton Surakarta (Solo). Then it was analyze in accordance with the focus of the research. The result of the research stated that the work value in Serat Wedhatama consist of: religious, being cautious in acting and speaking, modesty, applying the good advice, forgiving, have responsibility, obeying the rule, having mercies to all people, sharpening and empowering of mind, choosing the work, wirya (power), arta (wealth), and winasis (knowledge). The research as inspiration in delivering material and method of the guidance. The inspirative method of the guidance in Serat Wedhatama is developed work value in Serat Wedhatama is through giving advice in literary form and kidung. The work values which were found in Serat Wedhatama and also their implications can be used to build the counseless character to have positive work ethic based on the culture integrated in the career guidance.
