Abstract
This research was aimed to describe the types of cognitive strategies used by CLS 2018 students in speaking skills. This study uses a qualitative approach to the type of ethnographic research. The results showed that CLS 2018 students used 12 types of cognitive strategies in speaking skills, namely (1) repetition, (2) search for learning resources, (3) grouping, (4) deduction or induction, (5) substitution, (6) elaboration , (7) conclude, (8) imagine, (9) transfer, (10) practice, (11) receive and send messages, and (12) analyze and express opinions.
