Abstract

Selective mutism disorder is a condition in which children refuse to speak in certain social conditions but are able to speak smoothly in other situations. The focus of this research is to determine the characteristics of children who experience impaired mutism in children in TK Al Muhajirin Malang City. The research methods used are qualitative with a case study approach. The results showed that the characteristics of selective mutism disorder are: communicating using non-verbal language; Lack of eye contact when asked to communicate. The child is able to complete aspects of proficiency according to developmental stages that do not require verbal communication ability. The child will look anxious, afraid, excessive anxiety when in the new circled.
