Abstract

This research used a classroom action research design. The research objective was to determine the improvement of simple essay writing skills and student learning activities through the implementation of Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM). This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of three meetings with the subject of 35 grade 3rd students. There are two types of data collected, first, qualitative data obtained from observations, interviews, and documents, while the second is quantitative data obtained from written tests. The results show that: 1). implementation of learning through the application of PWIM in cycle I, namely 79% to 88% in cycle II or an increase of 9%, 2). Student learning activities in learning with PWIM have increased in aspects of student activity. Evidenced by the acquisition of a score in cycle I of 71% increased to 79% in cycle II or an increase of 8%, 3). aspects of the ability to make simple essays by applying the Picture Word Inductive model have increased significantly. Evidenced by the acquisition of the class average from the first cycle of 66% to 81% in the second cycle. Then classical completeness in cycle I is 57% to 89% in cycle II. This means that the Picture Word Inductive model can improve the ability to write simple essays and student learning activities.
