Abstract
Numerous researches conducted research on learners’ motivation in learning English. In this research, researcher only studied intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. This study aimed to describe students’ motivation in learning English at two state senior high schools; SMAN 1 Gambut and SMAN 1 Martapura in South Kalimantan. The research design used was correlational research design. There were 129 eleventh graders as research participants in this study. The researcher used a questionnaire and a writing test as instruments to collect data. The finding of the study showed a strong, significant, and positive correlation between motivation in learning English and writing ability.
