Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the ability of looking back students of SMP Negeri 2 Tegalsiwalan Probolinggo regency in solving rectangular shape problems. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Subjects of this research is three students who had knowledge of geometry level 2 (Informal Deduction) based on Van Hiele's theory. The results showed that subjects at level 2 (Informal Deduction) knowledge of Van Hiele's geometry were able to carry out looking back steps in solving mathematical problems. In addition, the subject is also able to provide more than one way of solving problems and can train students' ability to solve problems.
