Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the quality of students' scientific argumentation on thermodynamics. This research is a case study research using descriptive method. Research subjects 78 students from two high schools. The instrument is an essay test with 5 items with reliability of 0.728. Descriptive statistics show that students have 46.54 scientific arguments (medium category), and dominant at level 3 (quite strong). At this level students are able to write components of an argument that are quite good or related but less scientific. The lowest average of students is at level 2, it is in the subtopic of work and thermodynamic processes, because they are only able to write claims. For further research, learning such as ADI, authentic PBL, or STEM approaches is needed.
