Abstract
This study examines the user interface (UI) designs of Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves and explores Generation Z players' perceptions of their visual and functional characteristics. Employing a descriptive qualitative comparative approach, data were collected through direct game observation, interface documentation, semi-structured interviews, and open-ended questionnaires involving five Generation Z players domiciled on Java Island, Indonesia. The analysis focused on four interface components: the heads-up display, main menu, character menu, and inventory menu, evaluated using five design principles: clarity and simplicity, clear and concise language, consistency, visual hierarchy, and visual aesthetics. The findings indicate that Genshin Impact emphasizes descriptive navigation, consistent layouts, and prominent color coding, which some participants associated with greater interface familiarity and easier recognition of information. In contrast, Wuthering Waves adopts minimalist visual styling and provides navigation shortcuts that some participants considered convenient, although differences in control arrangements occasionally created adaptation difficulties. Participants' evaluations reflected varying priorities concerning visual clarity, navigational convenience, aesthetic preferences, and prior gaming experience. Overall, the study highlights the importance of balancing informative visual communication, consistent interaction patterns, and efficient navigation in user-centered game interface design.
