JoLLA supports the dissemination of original and rigorous scholarship in language, literature, library and information management, and the arts. The journal welcomes disciplinary and interdisciplinary studies that contribute meaningful theoretical, empirical, methodological, or practical insights.
Authors should consult the Aims & Scope before submitting their work.
02. Who Can Submit?
JoLLA welcomes manuscripts from researchers, academics, educators, postgraduate students, and practitioners regardless of nationality, institutional affiliation, or geographic location. Authors must possess the rights necessary to submit their work and obtain permission for third-party material when required.
All listed authors must approve the submitted manuscript and agree to its submission.
03. General Submission Rules
Originality and Exclusive Submission
Manuscripts must present original scholarly work and must not be under consideration by another journal or previously published in substantially the same form.
Authors must disclose related publications, preprints, theses, dissertations, conference papers, or other materials that overlap with the submission. Prior dissemination does not automatically constitute duplicate publication, but the editorial team may assess originality and the extent of overlap.
Authors must not submit the manuscript elsewhere until JoLLA's editorial consideration has concluded or the manuscript has been formally withdrawn.
04. Manuscript Preparation and Formatting
Manuscripts must be clearly structured, academically rigorous, and consistent in their presentation of objectives, methods, findings, discussion, and conclusions.
Manuscript Length
Manuscripts must contain 4,000–7,000 words.
Abstract and Keywords
Manuscripts written in Indonesian must include abstracts in Indonesian and English, each not exceeding 200 words. Manuscripts written in other accepted languages must include an English abstract. Five relevant keywords are required.
References and Citations
At least 20 relevant references are required. Citations and references must follow APA 7th edition. Recent and primary scholarly sources are encouraged.
Manuscript File
Submit an editable Microsoft Word document with consistent headings, complete citations, and properly numbered tables and figures.
Further instructions are provided in the Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines.
05. Similarity Screening and AI-Assisted Technologies
Similarity Screening
JoLLA applies a maximum similarity index of 20% during initial technical screening. Similarity reports are reviewed in context, including the nature and location of matched text, quotation practices, references, and legitimate methodological terminology. A similarity score does not independently establish plagiarism.
Generative AI Use
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of their manuscripts. Substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies must be disclosed, identifying the tool and its purpose. AI tools must not be credited as authors or used to fabricate data, citations, references, or research findings.
AI-detection tools may be used as supporting screening instruments, but their results must be assessed by the editorial team and must not serve as the sole basis for a finding of misconduct or an adverse editorial decision. Routine spelling and grammar checking does not ordinarily require a declaration.
06. Research Involving Humans and Animals
Human Participants
Research involving interviews, surveys, observations, educational interventions, identifiable personal information, or other human participation must comply with applicable ethical requirements. Ethics approval or a valid exemption must be documented where applicable. Informed consent and appropriate privacy safeguards are required.
Animal Research
Research involving live animals must comply with applicable animal welfare requirements and obtain prior ethics approval where required. Authors must describe relevant welfare safeguards and consider Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement (the 3Rs).
Additional protections are required where research involves children, vulnerable participants, sensitive personal information, or identifiable images and recordings. Detailed ethical responsibilities are provided in the journal's Publication Ethics Statement.
07. Authorship and Required Declarations
Authors must provide the following information where applicable:
- Author Contributions: Each author's substantive contribution and approval of the final manuscript.
- Funding: Financial support or a declaration that no external funding was received.
- Conflicts of Interest: Relevant financial and non-financial competing interests.
- Data Availability: Availability of supporting data and applicable restrictions.
- Ethics Approval: The reviewing committee, approval reference where available, or an applicable exemption.
- Informed Consent: Consent to participate and, where relevant, consent to publish identifiable information.
- Animal Welfare: Applicable animal ethics approval and welfare safeguards.
- AI Use: Substantive generative AI use, including the tool and purpose.
Missing or unclear declarations may result in requests for clarification or revision before editorial processing continues.
08. Editorial Screening and Peer Review
Submissions undergo an initial editorial screening for scope, originality, completeness, technical compliance, and ethical readiness. Manuscripts that meet preliminary requirements may proceed to double-blind peer review.
Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit, ethical compliance, reviewer evaluations, and editorial assessment. Authors may be asked to revise their work or provide supporting documentation. Completion of review does not guarantee acceptance.
09. Copyright, Licensing, and Author Rights
Articles published in JoLLA are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).
Creative Commons CC BY-SA 4.0
Attribution (BY): Users must credit the authors, identify the original publication, provide a link to the license, and indicate modifications where applicable.

The license permits copying, redistribution, adaptation, and reuse, including commercial reuse, subject to its conditions. Authors may deposit published articles in institutional repositories and share them on scholarly platforms with appropriate attribution and licensing information.
Authors must secure appropriate permissions for third-party materials not covered by the article license. Copyright ownership and publishing permissions remain subject to the applicable JoLLA publication agreement.
10. General Terms and Conditions
By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to comply with JoLLA's applicable submission requirements, editorial procedures, publication ethics policies, and submission agreement.
Authors must provide accurate information, cooperate with legitimate editorial requests, and respect the integrity and confidentiality of the publication process. Matters not explicitly covered by these guidelines will be addressed under applicable journal policies and recognized publication ethics principles.
