Manuscripts should present original scholarly contributions within the journal's aims and scope. Research questions, methodology, findings, discussion, and conclusions must be coherent and adequately supported by relevant scholarly literature.
Manuscript Length
The main manuscript should contain 4,000–7,000 words.
Originality and Similarity
The maximum similarity index is 20%. Similarity reports are interpreted in context; the score alone does not establish plagiarism.
Submission File
Submit an editable Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx), with tables, figures, and references integrated into the manuscript.
Academic Presentation
Use clear scholarly language, accurate terminology, consistent section headings, and complete citations.
02. Document Formatting
Authors should follow the official manuscript template. Unless the template specifies otherwise, the following general formatting recommendations apply.
Page Layout
A4 paper size, single-column layout, with margins of approximately 2.5 cm on all sides.
Typography
Times New Roman, 12 pt for the main text. Use consistent heading levels and readable formatting.
Paragraphs and Spacing
Use 1.5 line spacing and consistent paragraph alignment. Avoid unnecessary blank lines and manual spacing.
Document Cleanliness
Remove tracked changes, comments, highlighted revisions, and unnecessary headers or footers before submitting the final version.
Use italics rather than underlining for linguistic examples, foreign terms, titles of creative works, and other elements where appropriate under disciplinary conventions.
03. Manuscript Structure
Research articles should follow a logical scholarly structure appropriate to their research design. The following organization is recommended:
Title and Author Information
Provide a concise, informative title. Author names, affiliations, and corresponding author details should be entered accurately in the submission system and included in manuscript files when requested by the editorial office.
Abstract and Keywords
Present the research purpose, methodology, principal findings, and contribution concisely. Provide five relevant keywords.
Introduction
Explain the research background, scholarly context, research gap, objectives, and significance of the study.
Methods
Describe the research design, materials or participants, data collection, analytical procedures, and relevant ethical safeguards.
Results and Discussion
Present findings systematically, interpret their significance, and relate them critically to relevant scholarship.
Conclusion
Summarize the principal contribution, implications, limitations where relevant, and directions for further research.
Conceptual, theoretical, literary, and arts-based studies may use an alternative structure where justified by the disciplinary approach. Regardless of structure, manuscripts must present a coherent argument and transparent scholarly methodology.
04. Language, Abstract, and Keywords
Indonesian-Language Manuscripts
Manuscripts written in Indonesian must include an abstract in Indonesian and English. Each abstract must not exceed 200 words. The two versions should communicate equivalent research information.
Other Accepted Manuscript Languages
Manuscripts written in English or another language accepted by JoLLA must include an English abstract of no more than 200 words. Additional language requirements may be specified by the editorial office.
Abstracts should clearly communicate the research objective, approach, principal findings, and contribution. Avoid unsupported claims, unexplained abbreviations, and unnecessary citations.
Provide five keywords that accurately represent the central concepts, subject matter, or methodological focus of the manuscript.
05. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations
- Number all tables and figures consecutively in the order in which they appear.
- Provide informative captions and refer to every table and figure in the manuscript text.
- Place tables and figures close to their first relevant mention whenever practical.
- Use sufficiently high-resolution images and ensure that labels remain legible.
- Provide source acknowledgements and reproduction permissions for third-party material where required.
- Ensure that figures, photographs, screenshots, and other visual materials comply with relevant copyright, privacy, and consent requirements.
- Avoid unnecessary decorative graphics and maintain consistent visual presentation.
For studies involving visual arts, performance documentation, cultural artifacts, or identifiable individuals, authors must ensure that images and other media respect applicable ethical and intellectual property requirements.
06. Citations and References
JoLLA requires the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th edition (APA 7). Manuscripts must contain at least 20 relevant references. Authors are encouraged to prioritize primary scholarly literature and sources that directly support the research.
