Abstract
The Legend of Watu Ulo Beach is a form of folklore that has long been preserved and passed down among the people of Jember and its surrounding areas. This legend holds strong potential to be realized through realist painting, as it contains educational values and moral messages that contribute to the strengthening of social character. The narrative serves as a source of creative inspiration, particularly in the creation of painting artworks. Therefore, this artistic creation seeks to interpret the Legend of Watu Ulo Beach through a realist approach in painting. This study aims to describe the process of idea and concept exploration, to explain the stages of experimentation and formation, and to present the final realization and exhibition of the artworks. To achieve these objectives, a creative art method consisting of three main stages is employed: (1) exploration, which includes the exploration of sources of ideas; (2) experimentation, encompassing visual experimentation, tools and materials, and techniques; and (3) realization, which involves the preparation of tools and materials, application of base colors, transfer of selected sketches, global color formation, refinement and detailing, and final finishing. Through this creative process, six painting artworks were produced, entitled The Power of the Tyrant, The Golden Snare, The Rise of the Ruler, Clash of Energies, Fusion of Energies, and Return to the Proper Order. All artworks were created using canvas and oil paint, employing a combination of opaque (plakat) and transparent (aquarelle) techniques.
