Abstract
Film is an effective medium for conveying moral messages and national values to society. This study aims to analyze public perception of the nationalism-themed film Merah Putih: One for All through netizen comments on social media. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis. Data were collected from comments on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and X (Twitter) during the initial release period of the film. The analysis focuses on how audiences interpret values of nationalism, unity, and the relevance of the film’s message within contemporary social contexts. The findings reveal that public reception is ambivalent. Some audiences appreciate the film’s nationalist message, particularly its emphasis on unity and diversity. However, the majority of responses highlight criticisms of technical aspects, such as animation quality and audio, which are perceived to hinder the effective delivery of the film’s message. These results indicate that in the digital era, audience reception is influenced not only by ideological content but also by production quality and audience expectations. Furthermore, social media functions as a participatory space where audiences actively construct meaning and shape public discourse. This study contributes to the discourse on national cinema and offers insights for improving the quality and impact of Indonesian animated films.
