Abstract
Language functions not only as a means of communication for conveying ideas and thoughts but also as a marker of social identity among its speakers. In the context of Indonesia’s multilingual society, the phenomena of code-switching and code-mixing reflect complex sociocultural dynamics. This study aims to describe the forms, causal factors, and social functions of code-switching and code-mixing found in the podcast “MUSUH MASYARAKAT X LAMBEMU” uploaded on the NOICE platform. This research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical method. The data were collected through the transcription of conversations containing a mixture of Madurese, Indonesian, and colloquial language expressions. The data were then analyzed based on sociolinguistic theories of code-switching and code-mixing. The findings reveal that the use of code-switching and code-mixing in the podcast occurs naturally and contextually. Five forms of code-switching were identified, including internal code-switching between Indonesian and regional languages, as well as external code-switching into English. In addition, seven forms of code-mixing were found, consisting of internal, external, and hybrid code-mixing. The factors influencing code-switching include speech situations, social relationships among speakers, and discussion topics. Meanwhile, code-mixing is influenced by bilingual language habits, limited lexical equivalence, and the intention to emphasize cultural identity and communication style. Overall, the use of code-switching and code-mixing in the podcast strengthens social interaction, enhances humor, and represents Madurese cultural identity within the digital sphere.
