Abstract

Although Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to create adaptive and engaging instructional media, its application in the teaching practicum of pre-service teacher education students remains suboptimal. During field teaching practice, most pre-service teachers still rely on conventional methods and non-interactive media, resulting in learning that is teacher-centered, less engaging, and unable to accommodate diverse student needs. This condition leads to limited student participation, low classroom interaction, and ineffective delivery of material. Therefore, the development of AI-based learning media is necessary to support more interactive, personalized, and meaningful teaching practices aligned with 21st-century learning demands. This study aims to develop instructional media based on Powtoon animation enriched with AI features and structured within a Joyful Learning framework to enhance instructional effectiveness in partner schools. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. Validation involved two experts—one in instructional media and the other in content—yielding scores of 93.33% and 88.00%, respectively, both categorized as highly valid. These results highlight the media’s strengths in visual presentation, multimedia integration, and content relevance to the Physical Education curriculum, particularly the topic of basic volleyball movements. The field trial demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with average scores rising from 63.2 to 82.6, while 92% of pre-service teachers reported enhanced confidence and interaction in classroom instruction. This study recommends integrating AI-based media development training into the pre-service teacher professional education curriculum and systematically implementing such media during the teaching practicum, as a strategic step toward a more contextualized and humanistic educational practice
