Abstract

This study aims to describe the social values in the community contained in the tradition of Kupatan after Eid al-Fitr conducted by the people of Trenggalek regency, East Java province. The approach in this article uses a qualitative descriptive approach with ethnographic methods of field studies. The method of data collection using literature review, observation, interview and documentation review. Participation involved in this research includes elements of community leaders, religious leaders, and local residents. The results of this study indicate that the Kupatan tradition activities have social values containing 1) the implementation of religious values that teach strengthening faith and piety to the Lord of the Worlds, 2) implementation of cultural values that teach traditional values from local ancestors, 3) the value of solidarity that teaches to share, work together in life in the community, 4) the implementation of democratic values that teach unity, community meetings in welcoming the tradition of kupatan and 5) the implementation of economic values that provide opportunities for the economy to run faster. This study can be used as material for an in-depth understanding of the meaning of the Kupatan Tradition in religious ritual activities and social activities in villages in welcoming the month of Shawwal after the completion of Eid al-Fitr prayers in the month of Ramadhan.
