Abstract

Oracle cards are visual media that can be developed as reflective tools through a combination of illustrations, symbols, and narratives. Their flexible structure and themes provide opportunities to adapt Nusantara folklore into contemporary visual media relevant to younger audiences. This design project aims to develop folklore-based oracle cards as a reflective medium and a means of introducing cultural heritage to Generation Z. The project employed a qualitative approach using the design thinking method, consisting of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, observations, and literature studies and were descriptively analyzed using the 5W1H framework as the basis for developing verbal and visual concepts. The project produced Ever After from Nusantara, comprising 30 oracle cards accompanied by a guidebook and a hard box. Characters, events, symbols, and values derived from Nusantara folklore were adapted into reflective themes through contemporary illustrations and interpretive narratives. This design offers an alternative way of presenting Nusantara folklore through visual media by connecting cultural stories and values with a medium relevant to younger audiences.
