Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya (JBS) is an open-access, peer-reviewed scholarly journal publishing original research in its areas of coverage. 2. Language

All manuscripts must be written in clear, accurate, and academically appropriate English. Authors are responsible for language quality and are encouraged to seek professional editing or qualified proofreading where necessary. Language editing does not guarantee acceptance.

3. Types of Articles

• Original Research Articles: Full-length papers reporting original research and scholarly findings.
• Review Articles: Comprehensive and critical reviews of relevant literature, normally up to 10,000 words, with an unstructured abstract and current references.
• Mini Reviews: Concise, focused reviews of recent developments in a specific topic, normally up to 5,000 words.

All article types must fit the journal's aims and scope and demonstrate a clear scholarly contribution.

4. Before Submission

Authors should verify that:

1. The manuscript is original, has not been published previously, and is not being considered by another journal.
2. All listed authors have approved the manuscript and agreed to its submission.
3. Ethics approvals, participant consent, and permissions have been obtained where applicable.
4. The English language, article organization, tables, figures, and references are publication-ready.
5. In-text citations and the reference list follow APA Seventh Edition.
6. Author names, affiliations, institutional addresses, email addresses, and available ORCID iDs are complete.
7. Required statements about contributions, conflicts of interest, funding, data availability, and AI-assisted tools are included where applicable.
8. The author has read the Editorial Policies and Publication Ethics.

Submissions that do not meet the journal's requirements may be returned for correction or declined before external review.

Required declarations: Authors should prepare statements on author contributions, competing interests, funding, ethics approval and consent (where applicable), data availability, and substantive generative AI use. If a declaration does not apply, state this explicitly where appropriate rather than leaving the matter ambiguous.

5. Manuscript Preparation

Prepare an editable manuscript in Microsoft Word format. Use a clear, single-column layout and Century Schoolbook, 11-point font for the main text. Keep heading levels consistent and number or label tables and figures clearly. Use APA 7th Edition for in-text citations and references.

Insert editable tables and legible figures with captions and appropriate source acknowledgments. Ensure all figures and tables are referred to in the manuscript. For detailed formatting and APA examples, consult the Manuscript Style Guide.

6. Online Submission

Submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system on the JBS website. Upload the manuscript in an editable Word-compatible format and complete the required metadata and declarations in the submission workflow. Follow the system's current instructions for supplementary materials and any separate files needed for peer review.

7. Initial Editorial Evaluation

Every submission undergoes preliminary editorial screening for relevance to the journal's scope, originality, ethical compliance, English-language quality, completeness, and conformity with submission requirements. Similarity checking may be performed using Turnitin. A similarity report is evaluated in context and does not, by itself, determine whether plagiarism has occurred. The journal applies a maximum similarity threshold of 20%. Similarity reports are assessed contextually; a score below the threshold does not establish the absence of plagiarism.

The editorial team may request technical corrections or decline manuscripts that are not ready for peer review.

8. Submission Declaration and Verification

By submitting, the corresponding author confirms that the work is original, is not under simultaneous consideration elsewhere, and has been approved by all co-authors. All contributors must be appropriately credited. Any reused material must be properly cited and, where required, accompanied by permission. Authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and provide truthful information about the research and its preparation.

9. Article Structure and Author Details

For original research papers, a typical manuscript includes:

1. Title and author information
2. Abstract and keywords
3. Introduction
4. Methods
5. Results and Discussion (separate or combined as appropriate)
6. Conclusion
7. Acknowledgments and funding information, if applicable
8. Declarations (author contributions, conflicts of interest, ethics, data availability, and AI use, as applicable)
9. References
10. Tables, figures, and supplementary material, as applicable

Author identification: Provide each author's full name, institutional affiliation (department/faculty and institution), complete institutional address (street, city, postal code, and country), email address, and ORCID iD if available. Clearly identify the corresponding author and associate authors with their correct affiliations.

For review papers, headings may be adapted to the article's analytical structure while retaining all relevant declarations and bibliographic information. If the submission system requires anonymized files for double-blind review, follow those instructions when preparing the review version.

10. Peer Review

JBS applies a double-blind peer-review process. Submissions that pass initial editorial screening are evaluated for scholarly merit, methodological rigor, originality, clarity, and relevance. The editor considers reviewers' recommendations and makes the editorial decision. The average time to first editorial decision is approximately four weeks; manuscripts proceeding through external peer review and revisions may take two to three months or longer for subsequent decisions. Revisions may be requested before a final decision is reached. Further details are available in the Editorial Policies.

Review typically includes initial editorial screening, assignment to qualified reviewers, assessment of reviewer reports, an editorial decision, and revision or further review when required. Editors and reviewers must disclose relevant competing interests and withdraw from handling a manuscript when impartiality may be compromised. The editor retains responsibility for the final decision; reviewer recommendations are advisory.

Editorial independence: Neither the APC nor optional paid fast-track processing influences reviewer selection, recommendations, acceptance, or rejection. Expedited administrative handling does not bypass independent peer review or guarantee publication.

11. Publication and Research Ethics

For full requirements and procedures, consult the journal’s Editorial Policies and Publication Ethics. These documents govern editorial independence, complaints and appeals, research misconduct, conflicts of interest, and post-publication action.

AI and AI-assisted tools: Authors remain responsible for all submitted content. Disclose substantive use of generative AI in manuscript preparation, including the tool and purpose, in a dedicated statement. Basic spelling, grammar, and punctuation checks do not normally require disclosure. AI used as part of the research methodology must be described in Methods. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors must verify AI-assisted content, references, and data and protect confidential or personal information.

Authors must uphold recognized standards of research integrity, including accurate reporting, appropriate attribution, responsible authorship, and disclosure of competing interests. Research involving human participants must follow applicable institutional and legal ethics requirements, including approval and informed consent where necessary. Research involving animals must follow relevant animal welfare and reporting standards, including ARRIVE guidelines where applicable. The Declaration of Helsinki is relevant to medical research involving human participants when applicable.

Authors must not fabricate or falsify data, plagiarize, submit duplicate publications, or misrepresent the contribution of AI-assisted tools. Any use of generative AI should be disclosed according to the journal's applicable policy; AI tools must not be listed as authors.

Conflicts of interest: Authors must disclose financial and non-financial relationships that could reasonably be perceived to affect the research or its interpretation, or state that no competing interests exist. Editors and reviewers are likewise required to disclose conflicts and must not participate in an affected editorial assessment.

Research integrity: Allegations of plagiarism, fabricated or falsified data, undisclosed duplicate publication, or disputed authorship may be assessed through an evidence-based editorial inquiry. Authors may be asked to provide explanations and relevant records. Outcomes depend on the findings and may include rejection, correction, an expression of concern, or retraction where appropriate.

12. Article Publishing Charges

JBS does not offer an APC waiver or automatic exemption, including for manuscripts with authors affiliated with institutions in different countries. Publication fees are non-refundable. For APC-related administrative questions, please contact the Support Contacts.

APC payment is requested only after editorial acceptance. Authors considering optional paid fast-track processing should request the applicable terms and fees from the journal before making any payment. Any fast-track payment is separate from the independent assessment of the manuscript.

13. Template and Production Formatting

JBS does not require authors to use a specific manuscript template. Authors may prepare submissions as standard editable Word documents, provided the manuscripts comply with the journal's requirements for language, article structure, author identification, citations, references, and publication ethics.

Authors who prefer a starting document may use the optional article template; using it is not a submission requirement. Final manuscript formatting, typesetting, and page layout are managed by the Digital Commons production team. Authors may be asked to review and approve proofs before publication and remain responsible for checking the accuracy of text, tables, figures, author information, and references.

15. Data Availability and Sharing

All research articles should include a Data Availability Statement explaining whether supporting data are publicly available, available from the corresponding author on reasonable request, restricted, or not applicable. Where data are deposited, provide the repository name and persistent link or identifier when available.

Authors are not required to publish personally identifiable information, confidential interviews, restricted archival materials, culturally sensitive records, or third-party data when disclosure would violate consent, ethical obligations, copyright, or applicable law. Any restrictions should be briefly explained, and authors should retain appropriate research records for editorial verification where lawful and feasible.

16. Complaints and Appeals

Authors may submit a reasoned appeal against an editorial decision or report concerns about peer review, publication ethics, or editorial conduct through the journal's official Contact Page. Appeals should identify the manuscript, decision or issue, and supporting grounds or evidence. A disagreement with a reviewer's opinion alone does not automatically justify reversal.

Where feasible, complaints and appeals are assessed by an editor or appropriate editorial representative who was not responsible for the disputed decision and has no relevant conflict of interest. The journal may request further information, consult independent advisers, and communicate a reasoned outcome. Appeals do not guarantee reconsideration or acceptance.
