Abstract

This study aimed to identify and implement religious values among junior high school students in Malang and to evaluate the effectiveness of school programs in developing a religious culture. Character education based on religious values is an integral part of shaping students’ attitudes and behavior in accordance with prevailing social and moral norms. A qualitative descriptive method was used, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of religious activities at school. The findings showed that school programs such as regular recitation of Asmaul Husna, istighosah, congregational prayers, and the practice of smiling, greeting, acknowledging, being polite, and showing courtesy—the 5S culture—had positive effects on students’ religious behavior. Teacher involvement and a supportive school environment also contributed to the development of positive habits. The study is expected to strengthen students’ religious character and support national educational goals through an inclusive school culture oriented toward religious values. Its implications may also serve as a basis for schools to continue developing religious value-based learning strategies that foster students with strong moral character.
