Abstract

Education plays an important role in shaping students’ character and potential so that they are prepared to face contemporary challenges. Learning processes need to be innovative and adaptive to remain effective and relevant. Discovery Learning gives students the freedom to explore knowledge independently and positions them as active participants in learning. The model develops critical and creative thinking as well as curiosity, in line with the principles of Merdeka Belajar. This study analyzed the effectiveness of Discovery Learning in empowering students to think and act independently at a junior high school in Malang. The analysis covered theoretical understanding, classroom implementation, and its effects on students. A qualitative descriptive method was used, with data collected through teacher and student interviews. Data validity was established through methodological triangulation by comparing interview findings with classroom observations. The results showed that Discovery Learning was implemented effectively. Students became more active and independent and developed a deeper understanding of the material. These findings reinforce the view that exploration-based learning can improve instructional quality and encourage students to become lifelong learners.
