Abstract

Observations of third-grade students at SD Negeri Gedongtengen were conducted using in-depth interviews within a Design Thinking approach to explore their fears, difficulties, and concerns about learning. The findings indicated that several factors influenced their learning process. Interviews were conducted with two high-achieving and two lower-achieving students. The results showed that learning outcomes were affected not only by internal factors but also by external factors such as learning methods, instructional media, and learning styles. Students experienced difficulty understanding unfamiliar terms in Natural and Social Sciences, particularly in the topic of animal life cycles. Therefore, an engaging and useful learning medium called the Life Cycle Board was developed to support students in learning the topic. Its use improved students’ understanding of animal life cycles, as all four participants were able to arrange the stages of animal life cycles correctly using the Life Cycle Board.
