Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum was designed to improve the previous curriculum while responding to educational challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. It seeks to free students from excessive pressure and allow them to explore and develop their potential optimally. Each child has unique natural characteristics and is shaped by the circumstances of their time; therefore, the Merdeka Curriculum supports more independent learning. One relevant approach is Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL). This study used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze teachers’ perceptions of TaRL. The findings showed that teachers had positive perceptions and a sound understanding of the approach. However, classroom implementation remained limited because of challenges such as insufficient training and limited resources. TaRL can be applied in instruction because it has positive effects and enables greater attention to students’ individual needs. Broader training and support for teachers are therefore necessary to ensure optimal implementation across different educational levels.
