Abstract

This article describes efforts to increase students’ active participation in the learning process among Grade XI Social Work students at SMKN 2 Malang during the 2023/2024 academic year. Active participation was promoted through the problem-solving method and the use of visual learning strategies during classroom instruction. The study employed classroom action research. The participants were 32 Grade XI Social Work students at SMKN 2 Malang, while the research focus was their active participation during lessons. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively and presented in tables. The findings showed an increase in active participation from Cycle I to Cycle II. Across several indicators, the average participation score in Cycle I was 44.79%, categorized as poor, and increased to 84.37% in Cycle II, categorized as good. Therefore, the use of problem-solving methods combined with visual learning strategies effectively increased the active participation of Grade XI Social Work students at SMKN 2 Malang.
