Abstract

Tulus Besar Village, Malang Regency, has considerable cultural potential through the traditional Jaranan performing art; however, its event management still faces limitations in event planning, task allocation, financial management, digital promotion, and risk mitigation. This program aimed to strengthen and evaluate changes in community competencies in managing Jaranan cultural events through participatory training and mentoring. The program involved 20 participants representing Jaranan art groups, village youth, and village officials and was implemented through planning, coordination, socialization, training, mentoring, monitoring and evaluation, and dissemination. Evaluation employed a pre-test and post-test consisting of 24 items covering six competency areas, complemented by observation and activity documentation. The results showed that the participants’ mean perceived competency score changed from 78.80% to 92.76%, representing an increase of 13.96 percentage points. The largest change occurred in digital promotion (26.56 percentage points), followed by event management (20.00 percentage points). Observational evidence also indicated the application of learning outcomes through more systematic event planning, the production of digital promotional materials, improvements in performance arrangements, and a strengthened role of the youth organization in event management. These findings indicate positive changes in perceived competencies and provide preliminary evidence of the practical application of learning outcomes in community-based cultural event management.
