1. Who Can Submit?

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains (JPS) welcomes submissions from researchers, academics, educators, practitioners, and other scholars whose manuscripts fall within the aims and scope of the journal.

A manuscript may be submitted for consideration provided that:

  • the work is original;
  • it has not been published previously, except in forms permitted by the journal's publication ethics policy;
  • it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere;
  • all authors have approved the manuscript and agree with its submission to JPS; and
  • where applicable, the research has been conducted in accordance with appropriate ethical and institutional requirements.

Submission of a manuscript implies that the authors accept responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the work.

2. Types of Articles

JPS considers the following types of manuscripts:

Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles report substantial and original empirical or theoretical research relevant to science education and related fields. Manuscripts should present a clearly defined research problem, appropriate methodology, significant findings, and conclusions supported by the evidence presented.

Review Articles

Review Articles provide a critical and comprehensive synthesis of the literature on a topic relevant to the scope of JPS. Reviews should go beyond descriptive summary and provide critical analysis, identification of research gaps, and implications for future research or practice.

Short Communications

Short Communications report concise but significant findings that warrant timely publication. The main text should normally not exceed 3,000 words, excluding references, tables, figures, and supplementary material.

Mini Reviews

Mini Reviews provide concise and focused assessments of recent developments, emerging issues, or important perspectives within the scope of the journal.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to determine whether a submitted manuscript is appropriate for the article type selected by the authors.

3. Before Submission

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that:

  • the manuscript falls within the aims and scope of JPS;
  • the submission represents original work and is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal;
  • all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria and have approved the submitted version;
  • permission has been obtained for any copyrighted material reproduced from other sources;
  • ethical approval and informed consent have been obtained where applicable;
  • all funding sources and potential competing interests have been disclosed;
  • the manuscript has been carefully checked for accuracy, clarity, and completeness;
  • references are complete, accurate, and formatted according to APA 7th Edition; and
  • the manuscript complies with the current JPS manuscript template and submission requirements.

Manuscripts may be submitted and published in English or Bahasa Indonesia. Regardless of the language of the main manuscript, the abstract must be written in English and must not exceed 200 words.

Authors are responsible for the clarity, accuracy, and academic quality of the manuscript and its English abstract.

4. Online Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted through the JPS online submission system. Submission by email is not normally accepted unless specifically requested by the Editorial Office.

The submitting author should ensure that complete and accurate information is provided for all authors, including:

  • full name;
  • institutional affiliation;
  • email address; and
  • ORCID iD, where available.

One author must be designated as the corresponding author and will be responsible for communication with the journal during submission, peer review, production, and post-publication correspondence.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors are informed of the manuscript's submission and subsequent editorial decisions.

5. Initial Evaluation and Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts are subject to an initial editorial assessment before being considered for peer review.

The Editorial Office and/or editors may assess:

  • conformity with the aims and scope of JPS;
  • relevance and potential contribution of the manuscript;
  • compliance with manuscript preparation requirements;
  • completeness of required submission information;
  • research and publication ethics;
  • authorship and competing-interest declarations;
  • similarity with previously published material; and
  • overall suitability for external peer review.

JPS may use similarity-detection software as part of its editorial screening process.

A similarity report is used as an editorial screening tool and should not be interpreted as an automatic determination of plagiarism. Similarity results are evaluated in context by the editors. As an internal screening indicator, manuscripts with an overall similarity exceeding 20% may be subject to additional examination, revision, or editorial action.

Manuscripts that are outside the journal's scope, do not meet minimum scholarly or ethical requirements, or do not comply sufficiently with the journal's guidelines may be returned to the authors or rejected without external peer review.

6. Submission Declaration and Verification

Submission of an article implies that:

  • the work has not been published previously in substantially the same form;
  • the manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere;
  • publication has been approved by all authors;
  • where applicable, publication has been approved by the responsible authorities at the institution where the research was conducted;
  • all authors have made appropriate contributions to the work; and
  • the manuscript does not infringe copyright, privacy, confidentiality, or other rights of third parties.

If the manuscript is accepted, authors must comply with the journal's copyright and licensing requirements.

Authors must promptly inform the Editorial Office if a significant error, ethical concern, or other issue affecting the integrity of the manuscript is identified during or after the publication process.

7. Manuscript Preparation

Manuscript Template

Authors must prepare their manuscripts using the current JPS Manuscript Template available on the journal website.

Manuscripts should normally be 8–10 pages, unless otherwise specified for a particular article type.

Manuscript Structure

Original Research Articles should normally contain the following elements:

Original Research Articles should follow the official template and include Title, Authors and Affiliations, Corresponding Author, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Method, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Author Contributions, Funding, Declaration of Competing Interests, Data Availability, any applicable Generative AI declaration, Acknowledgments where applicable, and References.

Additional sections may be included where appropriate to the study design. Follow the Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for formatting details.

Title

The title should be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the principal content of the manuscript. Authors should avoid unnecessary abbreviations and overly broad or general wording.

Abstract

The abstract should provide a concise and factual summary of the purpose of the study, methods, principal results, and major conclusions.

The abstract must be written in English and must not exceed 200 words, including when the main manuscript is written in Bahasa Indonesia.

References and uncommon abbreviations should generally be avoided in the abstract.

Keywords

Authors should provide a maximum of five keywords that accurately represent the principal topics of the article.

Keywords should facilitate indexing and discoverability and should avoid unnecessarily repeating words already contained in the title.

References

JPS uses APA 7th Edition reference style.

Manuscripts should normally contain at least 20 references. At least 85% of the references should be derived from relevant peer-reviewed journal articles, with priority given to literature published within the last 10 years, except where older seminal works are necessary to establish the theoretical or historical foundation of the study.

Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy and completeness of every reference and ensuring that each reference cited in the text appears in the reference list and vice versa.

Where available, DOI information should be provided accurately.

8. Generative AI and AI-assisted Technologies

Authors must comply with the JPS Generative AI and AI-assisted Technologies policy, including human accountability, disclosure of substantive AI-assisted writing, transparent reporting of AI used in research methods, image integrity, and confidentiality during peer review. AI systems cannot be authors.

Where applicable, place the Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted Technologies in the Writing Process immediately before References. Routine spelling and grammar checking does not normally require disclosure. See the journal’s Policies and Guidelines for the full policy and declaration example.

9. Revised Manuscript

When revision is requested, authors should submit:

  • a revised version of the manuscript; and
  • a detailed response to the comments provided by the editors and reviewers.

The response document should address each comment individually and clearly indicate how and where the manuscript has been revised.

Where an author disagrees with a reviewer or editor comment, a clear and academically reasoned explanation should be provided.

Unless otherwise stated in the editorial decision letter, revised manuscripts should normally be returned within two months.

Requests for additional time should be communicated to the Editorial Office before the revision deadline.

Submission of a revised manuscript does not guarantee acceptance.

10. After Acceptance

After acceptance, the manuscript will proceed to the journal's production process.

The corresponding author may be contacted regarding:

  • final manuscript files;
  • author and affiliation information;
  • figures and tables;
  • copyright and licensing information;
  • publication charges, where applicable; and
  • other production-related requirements.

Substantive changes to the authorship, research results, interpretation, or conclusions are normally not permitted after acceptance unless justified and approved by the editor.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all requested production information is provided accurately and promptly.

↑ Back to Top

11. Proofs

The corresponding author will receive the article proof for final checking before publication.

Proofs are intended to identify production errors and should not be used for substantial rewriting of the manuscript.

Only minor corrections, such as typographical, formatting, or factual production errors, should normally be made at this stage.

Authors should carefully check:

  • author names and affiliations;
  • corresponding-author information;
  • tables and figures;
  • mathematical or scientific notation;
  • references;
  • acknowledgments and funding information; and
  • the accuracy and completeness of the article text.

Corrected proofs should normally be returned within 48 hours of receipt.

Significant changes at proof stage may require editorial approval.

12. Supplementary Materials

JPS accepts supplementary material that provides relevant information supporting the published article but is not essential to understanding the main text.

Supplementary material may include:

  • datasets;
  • additional tables or figures;
  • research instruments;
  • questionnaires;
  • multimedia files;
  • appendices; or
  • other supporting documentation.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy, completeness, formatting, copyright compliance, and appropriate anonymization of supplementary files.

Supplementary materials may be published substantially as supplied by the authors and may not undergo the same level of copyediting or typesetting as the main article.

All supplementary files should be clearly identified and referred to appropriately in the manuscript.

13. Article Publishing Charge

Submission Fee: IDR 0.00
Article Publication Fee: IDR 500,000.00

There is no fee for submitting a manuscript.

The publication fee applies to manuscripts accepted for publication and is intended to support editorial management, production, publication, and journal operations.

Waiver Policy

Authors who have genuine financial constraints may request consideration for a full or partial waiver in accordance with the journal's waiver policy.

A request for a waiver should not influence the editorial evaluation, peer-review process, or decision regarding the scientific merit of a manuscript.

Refund Policy

Publication fees that have been paid are generally non-refundable, except where otherwise determined by JPS under exceptional circumstances.

Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit, relevance, originality, methodological quality, and compliance with the journal's policies and are independent of an author's ability to pay publication charges.
