Abstract

Conventional teaching remains widely practiced and often leaves little room for students to apply the knowledge they have acquired. This study aimed to examine the implementation of social studies learning based on the traditional Boi-Boian game at SMPN 9 Malang. It used a qualitative classroom action research design, with data collected through observation and documentation. The intervention was planned in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The study identified four stages in implementing Boi-Boian: planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. A SWOT analysis was used to evaluate the implementation of the game in Class VIII-D. Group scores increased from Cycle I to Cycle II. During the game, students actively participated in group activities and employed various strategies, including dividing tasks among group members. Students worked together to answer questions correctly, and each group appeared enthusiastic and competitive throughout the activity.
