Abstract
This study aims to identify and categorize the types of Fachsprache (specialized language) found in simplified Tagesschau news and to explore their potential use for B1-level German vocabulary learning. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis. Data were collected from news videos available on the Tagesschau YouTube channel and analyzed according to three categories: (1) CEFR level, (2) subject area, and (3) usage context. The data were processed through data reduction techniques to simplify Fachsprache terms at higher CEFR levels, followed by data display and interpretation to examine the identification results, and finally, conclusion drawing. The findings revealed 80 Fachsprache terms in six simplified Tagesschau news videos, of which 21 terms were simplified to support B1-level vocabulary learning. These findings suggest that the teaching of Fachsprache should be explored more extensively to better prepare learners for professional contexts. Furthermore, simplified Tagesschau news can serve as an authentic resource for supporting German language learning at the B1 level.
