About the Journal
A bilingual (Arabic & English), peer-reviewed, open-access journal on Arabic language education, published twice a year (June and December).
Al-Arabi: Jurnal Bahasa Arab dan Pengajarannya (Al-Arabi: Journal of Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language) is published by Universitas Negeri Malang, managed by the Department of Arabic, Faculty of Letters, in partnership with IMLA (Association of Arabic Lecturers of Indonesia) — view MoU.
We welcome scholars, researchers and practitioners of Arabic education worldwide to submit original articles. Every manuscript is reviewed by experts before acceptance; authors are solely responsible for the content of their published articles.
Al-Arabi has been published since 2007 by the Publication Division of the Department of Arabic, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Negeri Malang, and has grown from a printed departmental journal into a nationally accredited open-access journal.
First published in print
Al-Arabi was published in print with limited circulation. Articles were written in Arabic and Indonesian.
Transformation to an online journal
Al-Arabi moved to the online journal system of Universitas Negeri Malang, making its content openly accessible worldwide. From Volume 1 of the online version, articles are published only in Arabic and English — two official languages of the United Nations — and experts from Indonesia and abroad were invited as editors and reviewers.
New article templates
The article template was updated to be more complete and attractive. Authors can now use two templates: Arabic and English.
Accreditation upgraded to SINTA 3
In the 2022 reassessment, Al-Arabi was upgraded from Rank 5 to Rank 3 for Vol. 6 No. 1 (2022) to Vol. 10 No. 2 (2026), based on Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology No. 225/E/KPT/2022.
